Nursery Rhyme Time

Our nursery rhyme unit was my favorite one yet!  Learning nursery rhymes helps promote memorization skills and teaches young children about the rhythm and rhyme of language.  We had such a fun time memorizing some rhymes and we learned many new vocabulary words too!  We learned the words "lane," "fetch," "frighten," "fleece," "tuffet," "nimble," and the list goes on!
We ended our unit with a Nursery Rhyme Day.  Each student got to dress up as their favorite nursery rhyme character and we had many fun centers that morning.  They played with moon dough, made a twinkle, twinkle star wand, ate some cute cupcakes (thank you to Ginger Dammers!), worked a nursery rhyme puzzle, and helped put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
After that, we acted out the rhymes for Mrs. Miller's Pre K-4 class.  We had some wonderful and original costumes!  Everyone looked great.  :)

Sarah was really Alice from "Alice in Wonderland," but we had her act out the part of Little Miss Muffet, so that Joshua the spider could "sit down beside her and frighten Miss Muffet away."

Jackson be nimble, Jackson be quick...Jackson jumped over the candlestick!

Hickory Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the clock!  (Marshall made a perfect mouse)  :)

Little Boyd Blue, come blow your horn...the sheep's in the meadow the cow's in the corn,
Where's little Boyd who looks after the sheep?

He's under the haystack, fast asleep!

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and doesn't know where to find them? (Sophia made a very cute Bo Peep)  :)

Hey Diddle Diddle, the cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon!

The little dog laughed to see such a sport and the dish ran away with the spoon!  (It worked out perfectly that Ms. Krista and I were the dish and the spoon!)

Pat a cake, pat a cake, Baker's man...
Caroline, Tiana, and Burke baked us a cake as fast as they could!

Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man?
(The muffin man, Bowen, was so sweet to bring us all real yummy muffins to eat!)

Boy, it's fun being in Pre K-3!  I am so proud of everyone for participating, for learning, and for helping our unit be so extra special! :)
